China Unicom to offer 3G and 4G mobile networks to support VisionChina Media’s plans to set up Wi-Fi networks on public transit across China.

VisionChina Media will build Wi-Fi networks independently on its existing mobile television media networks. VisionChina Media, utilizing 3G and 4G mobile networks of Unicom, is planning to provide interactive experiences along with mobile internet access and other value-added mobile communication services to commuters.

Wenke Tian, general manager of corporate customer service, China Unicom said: “We will take full advantage of our established WCDMA 3G and coming 4G networks to assist VisionChina Media in establishing its next generation of media networks.”

China Unicom is China’s second largest mobile communications operator. The number telecom operator is China Mobile which is building a massive 4G network on TD-LTE technology in the country.

The company will benefit from millions of passengers across China’s public transit systems and over 50 minutes of average daily commuting time on buses and subways.
