Vodafone reports €21.9 bn revenue and €1.9 bn loss

Vodafone reported revenue of €21.9 billion (+0.4 percent) and loss of €1.9 billion, primarily reflecting a loss at Vodafone Idea during the first half of fiscal 2019-20.

The marginal revenue growth is primarily reflecting a return to growth in underlying business and the contribution from the acquired Liberty Global assets for two months, partly offset by the disposal of Vodafone New Zealand.

Vodafone’s loss of €1.9 billion, primarily reflecting a loss at Vodafone Idea following a legal judgement against the industry by the Supreme Court, partially offset by a profit on the disposal of Vodafone New Zealand.

Vodafone said revenue growth was supported by improvements in South Africa, Spain and Italy, with solid retail performance in Germany and strong commercial acceleration in the UK.

Vodafone generated revenue of €5,590 million from Germany, €2,709 million from Italy, €3,151 million from UK, €2,161 million from Spain, €2,690 million from other Europe. Vodacom, which has operations in Africa, reported €2,734 million revenue.
