Sprint names Nester Cano as COO

Sprint COO Nestor Cano
American wireless operator Sprint today announced the appointment of Nestor Cano, 52, as the chief operating officer (COO) — responsible for delivering operational excellence, driving further expense reductions, and strengthening systems and processes across the business.

Nestor Cano will report to Sprint president and CEO Marcelo Claure. The SoftBank owned Sprint, which has 60.2 million connections as of September 30, 2016, is currently undergoing major restructuring to revive the telecom business.

Most recently, Nester Cano was president of European Operations at Tech Data, a distributor of IT products and services. Nester Cano held other senior executive roles at the company where he fixed management processes and controls to drive profit in the company’s European operations.

Before joining Tech Data, Nester Cano held positions with technology companies in Spain, including Tronik and CCR Informatica.
