Telecom network operator Idea Cellular has slashed mobile internet rates on its 4G, 3G and 2G data packs.
Idea Cellular said its mobile users can get up to 45 percent more data benefits on sachet packs below 1 GB. The company has effectively reduced the per GB rate on data offers. The strategy of Idea Cellular is to offer more data at the same price and encourage mobile subscribers to use more mobile Internet. The Indian telecom operator has 175 million mobile subscribers in India.
Idea Cellular, an Aditya Birla group company, offers 4G / 3G / 2G sachet data packs priced between Rs 8 and Rs 225. The company does not have strong presence in both the 3G and 4G markets in India. It is expected that Idea Cellular will be buying mobile Internet spectrum during the next round of spectrum auction.
The company’s 2G data pack will now offer 110 MB data for 3 days for Rs 19 against the earlier offer of 75 MB data for 3 days, promising 45 percent increase in value to the customer for the same price, said Idea Cellular. The offer will prompt consumers to utilize more mobile data during the same time frame.
3G / 4G data pack for Rs 22 which offers 65 MB data for 3 days will now give 90 MB 3G data for 3 days, offering 38 percent more data benefit to the mobile customer.
Idea Cellular is promising data benefits at a time when Reliance Jio Infocomm is gearing up to launch 4G services in key towns across the country. Bharti Airtel, the leader in the Indian telecom market, will also be under pressure to retain and add mobile Internet subscribers.
