EWE TEL to make investment in Carrier Ethernet 2.0

EWE TEL broadband network in Germany
EWE TEL has decided to make investment in the Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE2.0) based business Ethernet services and 100 Gb/s wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) in Northern Germany.

Infinera TM-Series will be the network partner for the project. As per the agreement, the TM-Series 100 Gb/s based packet-optical network will replace an existing lower speed Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) infrastructure and allow EWE TEL to offer differentiated services for business Ethernet and local area network access.

The TM-Series based network will support mobile backhaul offering new service opportunities in the future. The network will extend across Lower Saxony, Bremen and parts of Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia regions of Germany.

“Our aim is always to ensure that our customers receive the highest level of service performance with maximum scalability. To achieve this, we are expanding bandwidth on our fiber network as well as cost-effectively increasing the flexibility of service provisioning particularly for business Ethernet services,” said Heiner Meyer, head of Strategic Technology Planning at EWE TEL.

EWE TEL will benefit from the new network that will enable the regional telecom operator to manage the provisioning of multiple high-speed services. In addition, the new network will ensure enough flexibility to provide bandwidth as required.

The network involving Infinera’s TM-Series and the range of EMXP II packet-optical transport switch modules — is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.

EWE TEL first deployed the Infinera Intelligent Transport Network in 2007 with the DTN platform across its optical backbone in Germany with support of Axians.

EWE TEL, a 100 percent subsidiary of EWE AG (Oldenburg), is one of the regional telecom company offering telecommunication services to more than 600,000 private, corporate and public customers. It owns 35,000 km communication network.
