WIND Mobile to make investment in LTE networks

WIND Mobile, the fourth largest telecom networks operator in Canada, has decided to make investment in advanced LTE network technology.

Nokia Networks, which will be the telecom network partner for 5-years for WIND Mobile, will deploy cloud-based core technologies that enable VoLTE, VoWi-Fi and IMS services.

WIND Mobile will more than double network capacity and speed, achieve substantial network efficiency gains and deliver a better network experience for its customers by offloading its voice traffic and better utilizing its spectrum, said Nokia Networks in a statement.

Nokia Networks, under the five-year deal, will provide a solution that includes deployment of new radio LTE, LTE virtualized core and OSS (NetAct to support the LTE and core elements). The company will also deploy a cloud-based core based on OpenStack, which will include all of the elements: IMS, HSS, VoLTE, VoWi-Fi and Evolved Packet Core.

The modernization of WIND’s network will involve network implementation, network planning and optimization and care services in order to ensure consistent quality and a successful upgrade. Nokia Networks will also provide cloud wise services, including systems integration for VoLTE and packet core deployment.

“This new partnership with Nokia Networks as our sole source LTE network provider allows WIND to bring the most advanced technologies available to our customers,” said Alek Krstajic, CEO of WIND Mobile.
