MTS, Google partner to boost mobile commerce in Russia

MTS Google partnershipMTS, a leading telecommunications provider in Russia and the CIS, announced partnership with Google in mobile commerce in Russia.

Under this partnership, the companies have launched a mobile payment solution, which allows MTS customers to purchase mobile applications from Google Play and in-game content for popular videogame titles with discounts of up to 50 percent directly from their mobile account.

MTS clients are now able to purchase applications and make in-app purchases with their MTS personal account instead of a bank card by entering their mobile number.

The discounts will be applied to titles which are already enjoyed by tens of millions of gamers, including Township (Playrix), King of Thieves (ZeptoLab), Heroes of Utopia (MY.COM), Walking War Robots (Pixonic) and Defenders 2 (NIVAL).

“The smartphone has long evolved beyond a simple communication device and is today a convenient way to make purchases ranging from paying house bills to buying mobile applications,” said Vasyl Latsanych, MTS vice president, Marketing.

“Paying with a mobile device is easy, convenient and offers various advantages,” Latsanych said. “Substantial discounts on in-game content would allow those who have been using alternative methods of payment fully appreciate the benefits of this tool.”

MTS and Google have cooperated on promoting applications on smartphones sold under the MTS brand since 2012.

In 2013, MTS offered its corporate clients in Russia Google Apps for business, a suite of cloud solutions comprising several applications adapted for business users.

In 2015, MTS and Google reached an agreement to promote the Ok Google voice search engine in MTS advertising campaigns, retail stores and on Android devices sold by MTS.
