Telecom network operator du has deployed an Elitecore Technologies platform to monetize from Wi-Fi services in the Middle East.

The expansion of public Wi-Fi is a key element of the Smart City vision, which aims to make the U.A.E one of the most connected places in the world.

Currently du serves more than 7.5 million individual customers and over 80,000 businesses in the UAE.

du aims to deliver Wi-Fi services in several options such as complementary basic Wi-Fi access, free high-speed access for government usage, as well as premium paid high-speed Wi-Fi.

The telecom operator will benefit from management capabilities such as analytics and insights into usage and customizable push notifications for nearby Wi-Fi availability. Monetization capabilities include location-specific, context-aware advertisements and offers across du hotspots.

“The SMP helped us to offer better connectivity, helping us to push forward the Smart City initiative in Dubai. We are able to develop business models that both benefit the public and create new monetization opportunities,” said Jihad Tayara, vice president Business Development & Strategic Partnerships, du.

The SMP modules include 3GPP AAA, MAP Gateway, PIAP-supported, TRA-compliant, multi-lingual customizable captive portal with branding and advertising capabilities, web self-care, partner settlement, voucher management, policy control and a prepaid rating and charging system.

The India-headquartered Elitecore provided a monetization platform including mobile apps for iOS, Android and Windows, an advertisement server and reporting and analytics.
