Internet users in India to grow 49% to 402 mn by Dec 2015

The number of Internet users in India is set to grow 49 percent to 402 million by December 2015 and 462 million by June 2016.

Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) said about 306 million will access Internet from their mobile devices as compared with 276 million in October this year.

India took more than a decade to move from 10 million to 100 million internet users, 3 years from 100 to 200 million, a year to move from 300 to 400 million users.

The total Internet user base stood at over 300 million in December last year, which grew to 375 million by October this year.

India has the third largest Internet user base in the world. By December, India will overtake the US to become the second largest Internet base. China currently leads with more than 600 million Internet users.

Mobile Internet user base in urban India has increased 65 percent to 197 million and will reach 219 million, while the rural user base surged 99 percent to 80 million by October this year and will touch 87 million.
