Cisco in Remote PHY technology deal with Yashtel

Yashtel, a telecom internet service provider in India, has selected Cisco DOCSIS-based Remote PHY technology to deliver data, voice and video services.

Yashtel is the first Indian telecoms to deploy the Remote PHY technology. Yashtel aims at offering Internet speeds of up to 400 Mbps using standard interoperable DOCSIS 3.0 modems.

Sanjay Kaul, managing director, Service Provider Sales, Cisco India & SAARC, said: “By innovating Remote-PHY technology, Cisco has created a digital fiber-based solution that is standardized, cost-effective and maximizes investment protection.”

Remote PHY technology allows the cable operator to move towards a completely digitized fiber network with deep fiber architecture, thus protecting the operator investments for a longer period of time, said Cisco in a statement.

The Cisco Remote-PHY solution provides a cost-effective digital fiber-based DOCSIS solution that uses Ethernet passive optical networks (EPON), Gigabit passive optical networks (GPON), or Metro Ethernet as the distribution network between the Cisco Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) and the cable modem. Both the PON(or Ethernet) and DOCSIS are used in the same network.

KM Manjunath, director, Yashtel, said: “Yashtel is in a crucial yet exciting phase right now as we are expanding our offerings to cities other than Mysore and we were looking for a technology partner who understood our requirements completely.”
