MWC 2015: Huawei, HKT achieve 300Mbp speed with IP RAN based LTE-Advanced

Huawei and HKT, a telecom service provider in Hong Kong, demonstrated IP RAN based inter-site carrier aggregation (CA) for LTE-Advanced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2015), with the maximum data rates of 300Mbps.

This solution, which utilizes Huawei’s inter-site CA solution based on IP RAN backhaul, aggregates 2 bands to bear LTE services, to expand the CA coverage. The main benefit to subscribers will be the access to HD video and downloads.

HKT, which started providing LTE services in 2012, adopts 1800M and 2600M dual-band and is the first telecom operator to provide 300Mbps peak rate in Hong Kong.

“The solution also enables us to be at the forefront of LTE development relieving the restriction of co-site requirement of carrier aggregation,” said Peter Lam, managing director of Engineering from HKT.

Recently, Huawei released the world’s first L-band antenna supporting Ultra Wide Band (UWB) and multi band. In addition to the major frequency bands at 700/800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz, the new antenna will enable deployment of the 1500MHz band.

In 2014, shipment of Huawei global antennas exceeded one million units, serving 16 of the world’s top 20 telecom operators.

Meanwhile, Huawei introduced the world’s first 16nmFinFET ARM64 based networking processor, Nova. Nova networking processor supports GSM/UMTS/LTE FDD/LTE TDD on a single chip. Based on ARM64 architecture and the 16FinFET process, Nova is 67 percent more efficient than traditional processors and reduces the cost and required power for radio networks.
