Nokia Networks announced a telecom network deal with TATA DOCOMO to supply Single RAN technology to modernize its 3G network.
The deal includes Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station featuring HSPA+ (High-Speed Packet Access) technology and Radio Network Controllers.
Additionally the service package covers Flexi Lite Base Stations for enhancing capacity and providing best coverage in densely crowded areas. It also includes NetAct network management system for effective monitoring and management of TATA DOCOMO’s network.
Nokia Networks’ technology will help the operator address the needs arising from high mobile broadband traffic, Nokia Networks said. It will provide customers with better data services with higher network coverage and capacity.
The service also covers Nokia’s NetAct network management system that will ensure effective monitoring and management of TATA DOCOMO’s network.
Nokia will also offer network planning and optimization; project management services as well as hardware and software support to ensure a smooth network rollout, the company added.
3G in India grew by 156 percent y-o-y in 2013, higher than the world’s average. On an average, 3G consumption in India grew by almost 100 MB in 2013. However, 3G coverage in India is limited. On an average, in several circles in India there is a 20-25 percent coverage gap between 2G and 3G, which, if bridged, can possibly help in delivering even stronger mobile data growth in India, says TATA DOCOMO.
Neeraj Dindore, chief technology officer at TATA DOCOMO, said the initiative is part of TATA DOCOMO’s efforts to enhance customer experience and harness the potential of the data services market in the country.
