Altair in pact with Ecrio for VoLTE

LTE chip vendor Altair Semiconductor and Ecrio, a provider of 4G LTE real time communications client software, announced partnership to provide integrated solution bringing together Altair’s LTE chipset and Ecrio’s FlexIMS based Voice over LTE (VoLTE) software.

The new product enables high definition voice communications to run over LTE networks in a low power and cost optimized architecture.

VoLTE enables carriers to migrate voice traffic from older 3G technologies to LTE, offering spectrally efficient and higher quality calls. Once completed, this migration will enable carriers to repurpose their existing spectrum to LTE and use a pure IP network to provide users advanced services such as video calling and other Rich Communication Services (RCS).

The FlexIMS architecture allows for the distribution of IMS services functions between the Modem and Application Processors, making the implementations future-proof. RCS or Video Calling functions can now be incrementally integrated on the Application Processor to add to IMS, SMS and VoLTE functionality implemented in the Modem Processor.
