Micro, a provider of Internet content security solutions, announced an
agreement with KDDI to provide a new security service for Android smartphones
and tablets. KDDI is a Japanese telecom provider with over 33 million mobile
subscribers.
Under
the agreement, Trend Micro will offer “Virus Buster Mobile for au” as
part of KDDI “Anshin Security Pack,” a preinstalled applications pack
on au smartphones available from the middle of November 2011 by KDDI Corporation, a comprehensive
communications company offering both fixed-line and mobile communications
services.
Trend
Micro “Virus Buster Mobile for au” is designed to protect users by
preventing malicious applications and filtering bad websites through the Trend
Micro Smart Protection Network infrastructure, which correlates data from more
than 70 billion daily queries and has protected more than 130 million users
since 2008.
Trend Micro’s web
security and malware prevention technologies will be preinstalled on Android
smartphones and tablet devices released by KDDI to millions of their customers
— protecting them from threats like phishing websites and malicious programs
while enabling them to use their mobile devices in safer and more secure ways.
Security
is a growing concern among Android users. According to a recent Trend Micro
survey, though the majority of them (85 percent) enjoy using the web
capabilities on their devices, over 45 percent of those surveyed say their
Android devices are vulnerable to online threats.
In
the past, Trend Micro and KDDI have collaborated in Internet security services
such as: “Virus Buster for au one net,” a monthly subscription
security service for PCs; and “au one net access safety service,” a
web-filtering service to protect children from inappropriate websites. Trend
Micro, together with partners like KDDI, is committed to protecting all aspects
of consumers’ digital lives located on computers, smartphones or tablets.
