Roshan Telecom M-Paisa receives Sustainability Commercialized award

Roshan Telecom M-Paisa, a mobile money service, received the Sustainability Commercialized award at the Ethical Corporation’s Responsible Business Awards, recently held in London.

The mobile service provider in Afghanistan on Monday said the award recognizes Roshan’s incorporation of responsible business strategy and sustainable thinking into the company’s commercial products and services.

Since 2008, more than 1.2 million Afghans have started banking with M-Paisa as Roshan has introduced several convenient means to distribute and receive salary payments, pay bills, purchase items, and send money to family members in Afghanistan and abroad.

“Using innovative technologies and services to drive social and economic development in Afghanistan has been one of Roshan’s primary goals since its inception in 2003,” said Roshan CEO Karim Khoja.

Roshan Telecom M-Paisa has over 1.2 million registered users and over $4 million in salary payments transferred each month.

M-Paisa’s services are used by the Afghan National Police (salary payments), Western Union (international money transfers), Herat Cable Network (bill payments to service providers), and Norwegian Refugee Council (humanitarian payments by not for profit organizations), etc.
