Cisco ASR 5500 powers Vodafone Hutchison Australia’s 4G network

Telecom Lead Asia: Vodafone Hutchison Australia has tapped Cisco to accelerate 4G LTE network deployment.

Vodafone Hutchison Australia, as part of the agreement, will use Cisco ASR 5500 as the mobile multimedia core platform.

The company is planning to launch 4G network mid-year.

In addition, VHA is implementing the Cisco 7613 mobile security gateway as part of its Enhanced Packet Core solution.

As the foundation of VHA’s Evolve Packet Core (EPC), Cisco ASR 5500 will help the telecom operator to benefit from increased network efficiency and intelligence to provide an optimal experience for 4G customers.

Cisco in a statement said its professional services team will also work with VHA to ensure the solution is planned, designed, tested and implemented quickly and efficiently.

“The implementation of Cisco’s technology will provide VHA a Packet Core platform that we can scale to meet the data demands of our customers, now and in the future. Moreover this platform gives us the opportunity to go beyond traditional mobile services and allows us to create more personalised services for customers,” said Cliff Woo, chief technology officer at VHA.

The Cisco ASR 5500, according to Cisco, is the first mobile platform to scale to terabit performance and tens of millions of sessions and support the transaction rates required to address the needs of Vodafone’s new 4G network.

“Together with VHA and Cisco’s professional services teams, the ASR 5500’s massive performance, scale, and flexibility open up new opportunities for VHA to deliver an enhanced mobile experience for Vodafone customers through more highly personalised mobile services,” said Richard Kitts, vice president of Services for the Cisco Asia Pacific, Japan and Greater China region.

210 service providers around the world are utilizing the Cisco ASR 5000 Series platform.
