Huawei innovates for new telecom offerings

Telecom Lead @ Mobile World Congress 2013:
Huawei announced a slew of innovative offerings for telecom segment.

The ICT major from China — announced at Mobile World Congress 2013 — says its Air Plane Access Unit (AAU) solution improves network capacity by 85 percent.

To offer a better mobile broadband (MBB) user experience to telecom operators, the solution employs RF technologies and greatly improves RF module integration.

Huawei says its solution supports two different frequency bands using only one radio unit with an integrated antenna. In addiiton, it features two times more integration than industry-standard AAU solutions.

Huawei AAU enables operators to can smoothly evolve their networks to HSPA, LTE and LTE-A without adding new radio units or antennas; the number of required modules for site construction is decreased by 75 percent.

Some of the top European operators have deployed Huawei’s AAU solution.

Huawei’s another innovative product is SRC (Single Radio Controller) solution that achieves multi-RAT network synergy, enhances network capacity and efficiency, and help operators build networks that provide a better mobile broadband (MBB) experience.

SRC currently supports a maximum data traffic capacity of 120 Gb/s, which is three times the industry average, and supports evolution to TeraSite levels of data traffic when effective smart device penetration reaches 100 percent.

Its signaling processing capacity supports 64 million busy hour call attempts (BHCA), more than five times the industry average, and is the industry’s most integrated network controller.

SRC employs a wide-range of innovative technologies for total synergy of multi-band, multi-cell and multi-layer networks. This enhances overall network efficiency by a leading 40 percent.

SRC enables centralized LTE network cell management, significantly reducing interference and enhancing cell-edge user throughput by 200 percent via scheduling of resources between cells.

Wang Tao, president of Huawei Wireless Networks

Wang Tao, president of Huawei Wireless Networks, said: “Synergy is a defining feature of future wireless network architecture. SRC realizes the industry’s first five-mode access control for GSM, UMTS, LTE FDD, LTE TDD and Wi-Fi.”

Meanwhile, Huawei said its cloud operating system, FusionSphere, scored a 3895 on SPECvirt_sc2010, the world’s most authoritative performance evaluation benchmark. The evaluation results outscored the mainstream cloud operating systems due to its world-leading virtualization performance.

FusionSphere, an innovative cloud operating system, features virtualization capabilities and resource pool management, and provides multiple components, tools, open O&M and management application programming interfaces (APIs).

The core technology of cloud computing and virtualization has huge growth potential. 70 percent of X86 servers in the Chinese market will be virtualized by 2016, contrasting with the current virtualization rate of 10 percent.

In 2012, over 200 customers in 42 countries purchased Huawei cloud operating systems. These customers come from a wide range of industries, including government, public utilities, telecommunications, energy, finance, transportation, healthcare, education, broadcasting and TV, media resource, and manufacturing.

Huawei’s new innovative solution — unveiled at MWC 2013 — is Value Growth Solution (VGS) 2.0 that aims to address the newly emerging challenges faced by operators, offers innovative approaches to boosting user experience and traffic revenue in the mobile broadband (MBB) era.

Huawei also showcased the world’s first 4-Carrier Aggregation (CA) solution for LTE TDD at the 2013 Mobile World Congress.

Utilizing 4×4 MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technologies, the solution provides 1 Gb/s data speeds for the industry’s best capacity with a single RRU. The solution establishes a wideband network benchmark, allowing a single user to enjoy higher data speeds on an LTE TDD network than previously possible.

Huawei has previously demonstrated 4×4 MIMO 2-CA for LTE TDD, which allows for peak data rates of a single end user to reach 520 Mb/s. In 2013, the chipset series will launch to support end-to-end LTE TDD CA.

Huawei says its SoftMobile solution helps operators create commercial opportunities by opening the way for MBB success.

Huawei believes that SoftMobile represents at least a USD2 trillion market opportunity for operators by 2020.

During the 2013 MWC, Huawei also demonstrated active antenna units, high capacity radio units for indoor and outdoor, and radio network orchestration for higher network resource utilization.

In addition, Huawei showcased a key evolution of EPC to become a Multi-Service Engine alongside solutions and products that help operators improve network profitability and user experience.
