Waoo! selects RGB Networks’ video multiprocessing gateway

RGB Networks, a provider of scalable multiscreen IP video
delivery solutions, announced that Waoo!, a Danish broadband provider
delivering fiber-based network services to nearly 200,000 households, has
selected and deployed RGB’s Video Multiprocessing Gateway (VMG) and TransAct
Packager, to provide a complete transcoding and packaging solution for its new
over-the-top (OTT) video service.

Waoo!’s June 2011 launch of its OTT capabilities, the
organization’s first web TV service, establishes the operator’s position in the
Danish TV service market.

Waoo! is utilizing RGB’s VMG and TransAct Packager to
roll out 36 channels streaming Microsoft Smooth Streaming adaptive format to
PC-based consumers, adding to its existing TV service of 190 TV channels, with
plans to extend the service to 50 channels with four adaptive profiles for each
channel.

Selected for its scalability, as well as its
high-capacity, redundant carrier-class architecture, the VMG will give Waoo!’s
OTT video service high availability, as well as provide Waoo! with a
future-proof solution enabling flexible, open-ended growth.

“Not only does RGB’s technology perfectly meet our
needs, it also adds value to our long-term business strategy and facilitates
our rapid expansion,” said Aage Kudsk, chief technology officer at Waoo!.

“It’s clear to us that OTT services are the future
of video delivery, and we wanted a solution that could implement our vision to
provide cutting-edge TV services to our customers. Upon careful review and
testing we chose RGB for its flexible, high-quality video processing platform,
which can be scaled up over time to meet customer demand. With the entire
deployment, from equipment delivery to live roll out, taking less than one
month, we couldn’t be more satisfied with RGB’s solution and service,”
Kudsk added.

Working alongside the VMG, RGB’s TransAct Packager
delivers advanced adaptive streaming capabilities, providing Waoo!’s customers
with seamless video delivery by enabling the segmentation of video into chunks
that are reliably delivered using HTTP.

“We are very pleased to have helped facilitate
Waoo!’s successful launch of its new OTT video service,” said Ramin
Farassat, vice president, Product Marketing and Business Development for RGB Networks.

“Waoo!’s business model, like that of any service
provider, depends on meeting the needs of its customers today while planning
for future growth our VMG/Packager transcoding and segmentation solution
addresses both of these requirements. As more and more providers around the
globe are deploying our unique technology, they are experiencing similar
results satisfied end users and an improved bottom line,” Farassat added.
