Acer ICONIA is the First Tablet in India to Run on Google Android Honeycomb Platform

Acer India has launched five new tablets under the ICONIA series  which offers a new experience of all-point multi-touch functionality, and works on both operating systems; Google Android Honeycomb 3.0 and Windows 7 platform for both business and entertainment purposes.


 


 


With the launch of the ICONIA range of tablets in India, we believe this technology will change the dynamics of consuming digital content. The Indian market is not too far behind when it comes to adopting new technologies, and with the growing demand for tablets in India, we expect tablets to significantly contribute to our overall revenue in the calendar year 2011″,  said W S Mukund, MD, Acer India.


 


 


Acer brings in the full capacitive Acer ICONIA Tab A500 on both Android Honeycomb 3.0 and Windows 7 platform. The 10.1″³ fully capacitive touch screen ensures an optimal on-screen experience from every angle. It also has aluminum casing, and a high-gloss finish, and is 13.3mm thick. In addition, Acer tablets are powered and equipped with a full size USB port, mini USB port, HDMI output, Micro SD card and Sim Card support, positioning it as a multi usage tablet with rich connectivity.


 


 


The ICONIA Tab A500 will be equipped with NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core 1.0 GHz processor with Flash 10.1 support for optimized HD Web experience, 3D gaming and multimedia playback anywhere. It also features the Sky Cross antenna and ZTE LTE wireless module for communication.


 


 


The ICONIA Dual screen notebook will be launched on the Intel Core i5 processor with Windows 7 operating system. The 14″  form factor with its high-definition widescreen LED backlit LCD screen, the notebook also offers customized content to individual needs. However, what stands out about this ICONIA notebook is the Acer Ring Control Interface. Consumers need to form a ring by placing five fingers in a circular pattern on the bottom display. The Acer Ring is thus activated, which then offers a different touch experience by offering instant access to the user’s favourite applications and features.

In addition to the Acer ICONIA Tab A500 and ICONIA Dual screen notebook, Acer also launched its ICONIA A100, 7″  Android tablet that is focused on providing a more mobile experience and includes video chat and video recording options. The ICONIA Smart A300, a 4.8″ Smartphone on Android Gingerbread 2.3 operating system with 8 megapixel camera is targeted at avid mobile Internet users who want to make the most of their smartphones and enjoy superior browsing and multimedia.


 


 


The main differentiating factors between Acer’s ICONIA tablets and other tablets are the larger screens with multi-functionality and multi-directional options, longer battery life (18 hours on standby time), Micro SD slot for upgrade of RAM, and free on-air Android add-ons.


 


 


ICONIA can also be equipped with 3G connectivity via 3G dongles and EVDO on the current Wi-Fi models, while an HDMI port guarantees high-definition viewing and the Dolby Home Theater v3 provides vibrant audio for an immersive sound experience. The 3G version will be available in 4-6 weeks, after testing in Indian conditions.


 


 


The end user price of Acer ICONIA Tab A500 the 10″  Android is expected to be priced at MOP Rs 27,990/- and the 10″  Windows HP with the portable keyboard and Windows 7 Operating System is expected to be priced at MOP Rs 32,499. The 14″ DUAL screen notebook is expected to be priced at Rs 69,999. 3G ICONIA models will cost Rs 3,000- Rs 4,000 more than the present Wi-Fi models. The new tablets are available at all Acer specialty stores and retail outlets in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Pune.


 


 


 


Acer  has been rated as the number 3 PC brand in India, and recorded revenues of Rs 2,500 crore in 2010. It occupies a 10.7 percent share of the PC market in India. From the last year and a half, Acer has started focusing on the telecom segment especially with the launch of its smartphones and IT for telecom business.
