Telecom Lead Asia: HTC has unveiled HTC Butterfly, a new smartphone.

It features higher resolution display than Apple’s iPhone 5.

HTC Butterfly is powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, includes 2GB RAM and has 16GB built-in storage.

The smartphone features an 8 megapixel rear camera with a 28mm lens, f2.0 aperture and a backside illuminated sensor for better image quality in low-light conditions. There is a secondary front facing 2.1 megapixel camera which can record in 1080p resolution.

It is an Android smartphone. But the Taiwanese company did not reveal the exact version of Android.

Pricing will be announced soon.

“We are confident that HTC Butterfly will set a new example for high-end smartphones,” said HTC CEO Peter Chou in Taipei.

HTC sells its own smartphones and makes handsets for a number of US companies, including Google’s Nexus One.

The company has recently unveiled a new series of smartphones as it faces competition from Apple and Samsung and seen its third quarter profit tumble 79.1 percent year-on-year.

Like Nokia, HTC is also facing declining market share.
