Vodacom and Nokia Pilot Compact Dual-Band Massive MIMO
Vodacom South Africa and Nokia have successfully tested what the companies describe as the world’s first integrated passive-active Massive MIMO solution. The pilot, conducted in the Western Cape, combines multiple antenna capabilities in a more compact configuration, allowing Vodacom to increase network capacity at sites where physical or structural constraints make conventional expansion difficult. The solution supports dual-band Massive MIMO across the 2600 MHz and 3500 MHz spectrum bands, enabling more efficient use of existing spectrum and infrastructure. Vodacom said the technology can improve 4G and 5G performance in high-demand urban locations while providing greater flexibility to add capacity. The operator plans to deploy the solution at existing sites where additional network capacity is required.
DE-CIX and Cabo Verde Telecom Plan South Atlantic Corridor
DE-CIX and Cabo Verde Telecom have signed a Letter of Intent to explore a new South Atlantic interconnection corridor linking Lisbon, Portugal, with São Paulo, Brazil. The planned route would provide a more direct path for data traffic between Southern Europe, West Africa and Latin America while reducing reliance on traditional connectivity hubs in Northern Europe and North America. Under the proposed cooperation, Cabo Verde Telecom would provide transport capacity between Lisbon and São Paulo, while DE-CIX would offer access to its interconnection ecosystems in Europe and the Americas. The planned arrangement would give Cabo Verde Telecom access to DE-CIX services in Frankfurt, Madrid, Marseille, New York and São Paulo, supporting greater connectivity diversity and network resilience.
Aixia Secures SEK 3 Million Telecom Infrastructure Order
Swedish IT and AI company Aixia has received an order worth approximately SEK 3 million from an existing global telecom customer. The order covers advanced networking infrastructure for high-performance and data-intensive IT environments, with delivery expected during the fourth quarter of 2026. Aixia said the solution is designed to improve network traffic processing, security and data handling within modern data centers. The architecture moves parts of processing from traditional server resources into underlying infrastructure, supporting performance, scalability and resource utilization. The order extends Aixia’s relationship with the customer and highlights growing integration between networking, security and data processing in data-center environments. Aixia provides infrastructure, AI, data-center, security and software solutions for high-performance technology environments.
