TIM Poised for Multi Billion Euro Boost from Fiber Network Partnership

Italian telecom operator TIM could receive up to 75 percent of the value created from any future commercial agreement between FiberCop and Open Fiber, CEO Pietro Labriola said. The potential gains follow TIM’s 2024 sale of its fixed network unit FiberCop to a KKR led consortium in a €19 billion deal designed to reduce debt and improve financial stability. Talks between FiberCop and Open Fiber are focused on speeding up Italy’s high-speed broadband expansion through closer cooperation. TIM may also earn an extra payout of up to €2.5 billion if a deal is finalized before the end of 2026, though a full merger is considered unlikely within that period.

Nagaland Sounds Alarm Over Telecom Vandalism as Internet Disruptions Rise

Deputy Commissioner of Tseminyu, Japheth Woch, has warned that damaging telecom infrastructure, including optical fibre cables and related equipment, is a punishable offence as the district faces repeated mobile and internet service disruptions. The administration has directed village councils and local authorities to help protect telecom assets and spread awareness among residents. Telecom operators have also been instructed to improve maintenance, coordinate with local bodies, and restore disrupted services quickly. Authorities said all incidents involving damage or theft must be reported immediately to the district administration or police. Offenders may face legal action under the Information Technology Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the Telecommunications Act 2023, including fines of up to Rs. 50 lakhs.
