Samsung Restructures Leadership – TM Roh Named Co-CEO and Head of Device Experience Division

Samsung Electronics has announced a major leadership reshuffle, appointing TM Roh as Head of the Device Experience (DX) Division and elevating him to the position of CEO. He will serve as co-CEO alongside Young Hyun Jun, Vice Chairman and Head of the Device Solutions (DS) Division. The move marks Samsung’s return to its traditional dual-CEO structure, which separately oversees its chip business and consumer device business.

TM Roh will continue to lead Samsung’s mobile operations as Head of the Mobile eXperience (MX) Business. He has been acting head of the consumer business since April, following the sudden death of former co-CEO Han Jong-Hee in March.

To sharpen the company’s technology edge, Samsung has made key appointments in its research leadership. Janghyun Yoon has been named President and Chief Technology Officer of the DX Division, and will also head Samsung Research. Yoon previously served as CEO of Samsung Venture Investment and earlier led software platforms, IoT initiatives and Tizen development within the MX Business.

Samsung has also appointed Hongkun Park as Head of the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT). Park is a distinguished academic, serving as Mark Hyman Jr. Professor of Chemistry and Professor of Physics at Harvard University, known for his work in nanoscience, quantum science and engineering.

The leadership changes come shortly after Samsung named a new head of its Business Support Office – an entity upgraded from a task force into a more influential body that acts as a central strategy unit across Samsung Group.
