Over 8,300 private cellular network projects are active across 130 countries, including more than 3,700 private 5G installations as of Q3 2025. Annual investments in private 5G networks are projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 41 percent between 2025 and 2028, exceeding $5 billion by 2028. Companies such as Tesla, LG Electronics, and Hyundai have deployed private 5G networks to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs. Private 5G networks support ultra-reliable, low-latency communications and massive machine-type communications, enabling industrial and manufacturing applications. Deployment is increasing across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, targeting sectors including manufacturing, mining, logistics, and public safety.
New Zealand Telecoms Launch Real-Time Phone Outage Tracker
Spark and One NZ have launched a real-time phone outage service in New Zealand. The service combines data from both telecom providers to provide visibility into mobile network outages nationwide. It operates under the Hourua partnership and supports emergency response and network monitoring. The service provides real-time updates on current outages and forecasts planned disruptions up to two weeks in advance. During Cyclone Tam, Fire and Emergency New Zealand used the data to assess outage impacts on operations and adjust communication approaches.
Giffgaff Brings Full Fibre Broadband to UK Customers
Giffgaff, a UK mobile operator, has launched full fibre broadband packages offering symmetric speeds of 200Mbps, 500Mbps, and 900Mbps, priced at £34, £36, and £39 per month, with free installation. The company previously ran a trial offering 500Mbps broadband for £10 per month to select customers to gather feedback. The service uses the Nexfibre network, a collaboration between Liberty Global, Telefónica, and InfraVia, with plans to expand coverage to Virgin Media’s FTTP network.
UK Mobile Industry Moves Forward: Talkmobile Launches eSIM Support
Talkmobile UK has added eSIM support to all its plans, allowing customers to select either a physical SIM card or an eSIM during activation. eSIM technology enables users to activate mobile plans without a physical SIM, simplifying device switching and supporting international roaming. Other UK operators are also integrating eSIM technology. SMARTY recently introduced eSIM support, and 1p Mobile plans to launch it soon.
