PacketLight Networks, a provider of DWDM and OTN equipment, has announced the upgrade of its PL-4000M muxponder, enabling it to support the transport of 600 Gb/s in its current 1U device.
This upgrade allows network providers to enhance their backbone capacity cost-effectively while facilitating the rapid deployment of new services, Koby Reshef, CEO of PacketLight, said.
The PL-4000M is designed to aggregate various services, including Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and OTN, into uplinks with capacities of 200/300/400 Gb/s. Additionally, the device now supports the 25 GbE service type, taking advantage of existing 10 GbE fiber optic cables.
By delivering cost-effective, high-capacity transport for 10/25/100 GbE, 16G FC, and OTU2/2e/4 services over 200/300/400 Gb/s wavelengths, the PL-4000M significantly enhances spectral efficiency.
It expedites the introduction of new services and increases the capacity of data center interconnects (DCI), metro, short-haul, and long-haul network backbones. Notably, these improvements are achieved without the need to replace existing infrastructure, as the device utilizes alien wavelengths.
One of the key features of the PL-4000M is its support for 25 GbE client services over existing 10 GbE cables. This capability enables double the density while utilizing fewer optical modules, simplifying network upgrades and reducing costs.
Moreover, the integrated 1U footprint helps save valuable rack space, and its low power consumption per transmitted bit contributes to an overall cost-effective transport solution. The device also offers robust security measures, featuring embedded Layer-1 GCM-AES-256 optical encryption using elliptic curve Diffie-Hellman key exchange, and compliance with FIPS-140-3 level 2.
The PL-4000M supports 200/300/400 Gb/s uplinks through CFP2-DCO Open ROADM coherent pluggable modules, eliminating vendor lock-in and reducing the long-term total cost of ownership (TCO). This flexibility accelerates return on investment (ROI) for network providers.
Moreover, the device offers seamless interoperability with third-party switches and routers, providing full demarcation between the service and the OTN/DWDM uplink. It also enables comprehensive visibility and performance monitoring of both the line optical transport layer (OTN) and service interfaces.
