Three Sweden Launches 5G Standalone Network with Ericsson to Boost Consumer and Enterprise Connectivity

Three Sweden has launched its 5G Standalone (5G SA) network using Ericsson-powered hardware and software. The investment in 5G SA delivers expanded coverage, higher capacity, lower latency, faster speeds, and improved user experience for consumer and business subscribers, particularly in urban areas.

Beyond enhanced mobile broadband, the 5G SA network strengthens Three Sweden’s enterprise strategy by enabling network slicing, which allows customized service quality and performance for business-critical applications. The operator is also focusing on 5G SA Fixed Wireless Access as a high-speed, secure broadband alternative to traditional cable connections for homes and businesses.

The deployment is built on Ericsson’s cloud-native 5G Core and Radio Access Network solutions, following extensive trials and a commercial launch in December 2025. With its programmable, software-driven architecture, 5G SA supports advanced enterprise, IoT, and digital service use cases while improving energy efficiency per gigabyte, helping reduce environmental impact as data demand grows.

Three Sweden’s customer base has been steadily growing. Recent reports show the total subscription base across Tre Skandinavien (Sweden and Denmark) rose to around 4.52 million by mid-2025, with roughly 2.80 million subscriptions in Sweden and around 1.72 million in Denmark. In the first half of 2025, Tre Skandinavien posted sales of SEK 6,111 million, with Sweden contributing SEK 3,984 million. Service revenue for the group was SEK 4,414 million, of which SEK 2,837 million came from Sweden.
