Ooredoo 5G goes live in Qatar targeting business customers

Ooredoo at Mobile World Congress 2018Ooredoo Group announced its 5G services – powered by 5G New Radio (NR) commercial equipment – targeting business customers in Qatar.

Ooredoo’s 5G services are offering 2.3 Gbps speed with 3.5 ms latency. Ooredoo will be using 5G spectrum at 3.5 GHz to expand 5G coverage.

The 5G network, already live in Qatar, doubles the speed of current 4G network.

“By providing superior speeds, we will enable organisations, cities, and countries to digitally transform in the era of Smart Cities and the Internet of Things,” Waleed Al-Sayed, deputy group chief executive officer of Ooredoo Group, said.

Ooredoo will be targeting Smart Cities and Smart Stadiums in Qatar to offer its 5G services. The company did not reveal the pricing of 5G services. Ooredoo, which announced the 5G launch at Mobile World Congress 2018, also did not disclose about the name of the 5G equipment maker.
