Deutsche Telekom Unveils “Cell Tower to Go” at Digital X 2023, Revolutionizing Mobile Communication

Deutsche Telekom is set to unveil its groundbreaking innovation, “Cell Tower to Go,” at the esteemed World Exhibition of Digitalization, Digital X 2023, scheduled for September 20 and 21 in Cologne’s Mediapark. This compact mobile transmission mast is poised to revolutionize the industry by providing enhanced mobile coverage in a highly portable and flexible package.
Deutsche Telekom Cell tower to go at Digital X 2023The “Cell Tower to Go” boasts a remarkable reduction in size and weight compared to traditional transmission masts. Housed within a compact micro container measuring just 1.6 meters in length, 2 meters in width, and 2.6 meters in height, the entire mobile radio technology is ingeniously integrated. This design not only saves space but also facilitates effortless transport and swift installation, achievable by a single individual in less than an hour.

At Digital X 2023, this mobile transmission mast will be prominently stationed at the event’s largest stage, the Inspiration Stage, within Mediapark. The mast supports both 5G and LTE technologies, with antennas extendable to a height of up to eight meters, ensuring rapid deployment of mobile communications wherever needed.

The versatility of this innovation is unparalleled. “Cell Tower to Go” offers temporary mobile coverage solutions ideal for events, fairs, large construction sites, and more. Businesses can harness its capabilities for high-performance mobile communications in new development areas or combine it with existing 5G campus networks on their premises. The micro container can connect to various power sources and data networks, including fiber optics and radio relay.

Hagen Rickmann, Managing Director of Business Customers at Telekom Deutschland GmbH, expressed excitement about the innovation, stating, “The new micro-container provides even more scope for short-term mobile communications needs. After practical tests, we are presenting the innovative and particularly flexible mobile coverage solution to our business customers in live operation.”

The development of this ultra-mobile mast stems from the ingenuity of two Deutsche Telekom employees driven to optimize coverage supply during festivals, major events, and disaster situations. Following extensive research and development, the prototype was successfully tested at the Nibirii Festival in Düren, Germany, attended by over 30,000 electronic music enthusiasts.

Moreover, Deutsche Telekom invites companies to partake in a free pilot test of the micro-container starting in November. Ten systems are available for testing purposes until March 31, 2024, offering companies an opportunity to experience firsthand the groundbreaking potential of this innovation.

In preparation for Digital X 2023, Deutsche Telekom ensures visitors in Cologne enjoy the best mobile coverage, with their network already delivering LTE and 5G to 99.9 percent of the population. Cologne stands as one of Deutsche Telekom’s most comprehensively covered 5G cities, showcasing the power of the 3.6 GHz frequency and 340 high-speed 5G antennas.
