The latest telecom analysis report from Opensignal indicated that 5G smartphone customers of NTT Docomo have experienced the fastest 5G download speed in Japan.

AU’s 5G smartphone customers have experienced 5G download speed of 45.7Mbps vs 43.4Mbps.

SoftBank’s 5G smartphone customers have experienced 5G download speed of 41.3Mbps vs 37.9Mbps.

Rakuten’s 5G smartphone customers have experienced 5G download speed of 33.7Mbps vs 30Mbps.

Rakuten’s 5G smartphone customers have experienced 5G upload speed of 18.3Mbps.

SoftBank’s 5G smartphone customers have experienced 5G upload speed of 9Mbps.

AU’s 5G smartphone customers have experienced 5G upload speed of 7.9Mbps.

NTT docomo’s5G smartphone customers have experienced 5G upload speed of 7.9Mbps.

NTT Docomo has the fastest overall and 5G download speed experience. With users seeing average 5G download speeds of 204Mbps and overall average speeds of 52.8 Mbps, NTT docomo wins both the 5G Download Speed and Download Speed Experience awards. Rakuten is second for 5G Download Speed with a score of 174.4Mbps but it’s AU that is second overall with a score of 45.7Mbps.

Opensignal collected the data from smartphone users Dec 01, 2022 – Feb 28, 2023.

According to research reports, 5G mobile subscribers in Japan will represent 75 percent subscribers of all subscriptions by 2028, 4G will represent about 25 percent of all connections while 3G will be shut down by the end of 2026.

The telecom services market size in Japan was valued at $103.6 billion in 2022 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.7 percent during the forecast period, 2022-2027, report from GlobalData showed.

The ongoing 5G network expansion by major mobile operators such as NTT Docomo, KDDI, and SoftBank and fixed broadband network infrastructure expansion will be the key growth drivers in the Japanese telecom sector.
