By Telecom Lead Team: Chinese gear maker ZTE and 3 Sweden
have conducted an interactive video demonstration using TD-LTE technology at
Mobile World Congress 2012.
The ZTE booth in Hall 8 at the Barcelona is connected
with a 3 Sweden store in Stockholm. Actors on each side play a game called
Lucky Roll, with prizes for game winners.
3 Sweden and ZTE announced in December 2011 the world’s
first LTE FDD / TD-LTE dual-mode commercial network which is now in commercial
use in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö in Sweden. These Nordic cities are the
first in the world to see these green dual-model base stations.
As a major operator in Sweden, 3 Sweden is committed to
upgrading the network to provide a higher speed and more extensive services,
which users can enjoy even when on the move. To achieve this goal, 3 Sweden
signed an LTE network commercial contract with ZTE in March 2011.
Users of this network can enjoy an extensive new range of
services delivered over the world’s first dual-mode 4G network, and can roam to
other LTE networks all over the world.
For 3 Sweden this has also been an opportunity to evolve
its network. The operator has significantly reduced TCO by adopting a new
generation of energy-saving ZTE base stations that can easily be upgraded to
future generations of high speed mobile technology.
As 3 Sweden improves its competitiveness, more and more
affordable and easy-to-use services will be available to subscribers.
We expect that other European operators will sit up and
take notice of what this dual-mode network can deliver. This network fully
indicates the practical use of the mature LTE multi-mode convergent solution.
It allows us to extend the partnership with ZTE,” said Jörgen Askeroth, CTO of
3 Sweden.
