RIL (Reliance Industries) chairman Mukesh Ambani today delivered a speech on Reliance Jio Infocomm’s 50 million subscriber-mark on 4G network.
Jio has achieved the 50 million user-mark in three months — in a record time. With this Jio has become the largest broadband operator in India competing with Bharti Airtel, BSNL, Idea Cellular, Vodafone, etc.
Jio with 50 million users
Mukesh Ambani said the average rate of addition of 6 lakh subscribers per day is the fastest achieved by any technology company in the world including the likes of Facebook, WhatsApp and Skype.
Jio on superior 4G network
Jio’s 52 million subscribers on an average are using 25 times more data than the average Indian broadband user. Jio is delivering 4 times more data than all other Indian telecom operators combined, and faster throughputs than any other mobile network.
Mukesh Ambani said call drops have come down to 20 percent as of yesterday. “We want the three telecom operators to co-operate and ensure quality of service to Jio customers on 4G network,” said Mukesh Ambani.
Jio and eKYC
eKYC based verification will be rolled out to 400,000 outlets across the country. This is to ensure faster verification of SIM users.
Jio has rolled out eKYC across 2 lakh outlets in India, thereby allowing activation of SIM to get completed in under 5 minutes. More than 95 percent of the activations are being done in a paperless manner through eKYC. The company is in the process of doubling the network, to 4 lakh digitally enabled outlets by March 2017.
Jio and MNP
Jio customers can benefit from the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) facility to retain their existing number when they migrate to Jio. Jio has introduced Home Delivery of Jio SIMs to enterprise and high-end customers and activate in 5 minutes through eKYC. This feature is being launched across India through MyJio application and will be available in top 100 cities by 31 December 2016.
Jio extends free offer
All Jio customers will get will get voice, data and video till 31 March 2017. This is called Jio Happy New Year Offer for Indians. “All our 52 million Jio will continue to get Welcome Offer till December 31, 2016. All customers will get the extended benefit till the end of the current financial year,” said Mukesh Ambani.
Average Jio users use 1 GB of data per day. This is 20 percent more than users on other network. “Under our fair usage policy, Jio users will be getting 30 percent more data as compared with rival operator networks,” said Mukesh Ambani.
