True Move to make investment in LTE-Advanced

Ericsson signs 3G and 4G deal with Thailand telecoms True Mobile
True Move H, a subsidiary of True, has decided to make additional investment to enhance rollout of LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation and 2G/3G networks on 900/1800/2100MHz spectrum in North, Central West, and South Thailand.

True Move H, a telecom operator in Thailand with approximately 18.5 million subscribers, signed a three-year frame contract with telecom network vendor Ericsson.

As per the LTE deal, Ericsson will deploy its multi-standard radio equipment using the new Ericsson Radio System and Ericsson RBS 6000 base station for macro and small cells.

TrueMove H will make investment in indoor small cell solutions including Ericsson Radio Dot System for medium and large buildings, and the Ericsson RBS 6402 Indoor Picocell for smaller buildings to enhance data speeds and improve app-coverage.

TrueMove H is making additional investment in mobile data networks at a time when smartphone penetration in Thailand is expected to grow more than 90 percent by 2018 against 60 percent in 2015.

According to the South East Asia and Oceania edition of the Ericsson Mobility Report, with recent 4G LTE auctions, LTE subscriptions in Thailand will reach around 30 percent of total mobile subscriptions by 2018.

“Our Partnership with Ericsson will further strengthen our 3G/WCDMA and 4G/LTE leadership in Thailand,” said Vichaow Rakphongphairoj, managing director and chief operating officer of True Corporation.

Ericsson, which competes with Nokia, ZTE and Huawei, claims that it is number one in LTE market share within the world’s top 100 cities. More than 230 Ericsson LTE RAN and evolved Packet Core networks have been delivered worldwide, of which 170 are live commercially.
