Nokia said it is enhancing Vodafone Idea (VIL) network by providing new Baseband and Radio modules, aiming to deploy nearly 3,300 new sites by March 2025.
Nokia is also upgrading over 42,000 technology sites and expanding spectrum across more than 25,000 sites, which will significantly increase data bandwidth and capacity.
Vodafone Idea, which has significantly lowered its Capex in network, has completed 100 percent of the spectrum bandwidth expansion, nearly 40 percent of the technology upgrades, and 15 percent of the new sites. Vodafone Idea is in the process of deploying ultra-lean sites to address coverage issues and improve user experience in high-demand areas.
The expansion is expected to continue into 2025, with a focus on improving coverage and data capacity in rural and underserved regions. This will enhance 4G network coverage for 20 million people by March 2025, with a 25 percent increase in capacity, which is expected to improve the customer experience in nine out of VIL’s 17 priority circles.
Nokia’s support is also seen as a crucial part of VIL’s long-term strategy, paving the way for future 5G integration.
Jagbir Singh, CTO of Vodafone Idea, said: “We are working closely with Nokia to expand our 4G network coverage to 20 million addition population by March 2025. This will also enhance 4G network capacity by 25 percent, enabling us to offer superior customer experience in nine circles out of our 17 priority circles.”
Tarun Chhabra, Country Head of Nokia India, said: “We are supporting their LTE network expansion and modernization across Nokia supplied circles. This upgrade will enhance mobile experiences for millions of Vi customers while laying the foundation for a seamless transition to 5G technology.”
