SK Telecom LTE / LTE-Advanced subscribers surpass 16 million in Korea

SK Telecom today said its LTE / LTE-Advanced subscribers surpassed 16 million in Korea.

LTE / LTE-Advanced subscribers of SK Telecom now account for 57 percent of the company’s total mobile subscriber base. SK Telecom is targeting 60 percent of its total subscriber base to come from LTE / LTE-Advanced.

SK Telecom Chief Financial Officer Hwang Soo-cheol said: “Based on differentiated competencies in network, the company will pursue a market paradigm shift in a direction towards a service-centric competition with an aim to enhance customer value.”

Supported by the growth in LTE / LTE-Advanced subscribers, SK Telecom Q3 2014 revenue rose 5.9 percent y-o-y to KRW 4.367 trillion, net income grew 6.7 percent q-o-q to KRW 531 billion.

SK Hynix recorded KRW 531 billion.

After reducing subscription fee by 50 percent from KRW 23,760 (VAT included) to KRW 11,880 last August, SK Telecom plans to scrap the fee all together soon. The company expects the abolition of fee to save users about KRW 92 billion in communication expenses.
