Reliance Jio 4G targets 100 million subscribers in 2016-17

Reliance Jio Infocomm, the 4G venture of Mukesh Ambani, aims to rope in 100 million 4G subscribers in 2016-17.

The 4G launch event, with Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan and music director A.R. Rahman, was viewed by 150,000 employees in 1,100 locations across India all together.

“Jio is not about technical brute force but to reimagine how to do things better. Jio is not about Reliance, it is about India and when it comes to India I am an eternal optimist,” Mukesh Ambani said.

The company has started offering 4G connections to its employees to test for possible glitches before they are offered to the general public.

Jio services are being offered to the employees from Monday, which is the 83rd birth anniversary of the group’s late founder Dhirubhai Ambani.

“Jio is not just 4G, it is an ecosystem that will prepare the future generation for the world. We will use Jio to deliver health and education across the country. It will break the rural-urban divide,” said Nita M. Ambani, who leads Reliance Foundation.
