Orange to invest in VoLTE and WiFi Calling in Europe

Orange
Telecom network operator Orange today said it will be making investment in VoLTE and WiFi Calling across its European operations.

The technology giant made the announcement at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2016) in Spain.

Orange VoLTE is already available in Romania. VoLTE technology, according to Orange, will ensure reduced connection times – dropping from approximately eight to two seconds — and improved simultaneous use of voice and high speed data.

Orange will launch VoLTE in its remaining European operations in 2016 and early 2017.

The telecom giant will also launch WiFi Calling to ensure improved indoor coverage. WiFi Calling will be launched across Orange’s remaining European footprint in 2016 and early 2017.

Along with Cisco and Nokia, Orange shows the industry’s first proof of concept virtualized network in full function utilizing NFV (Network Functions Virtualization) and SDN (Software Defined Networks) technologies.

Orange, Akamai Technologies and HPE are demonstrating the industry’s first NFV Orchestrated Virtualized CDN. This proof-of-concept driven by Orange Labs shows the benefits of dynamically scaling the caching capacity of Akamai’s Aura Virtualized LCDN (vLCDN) solution to support scenarios such as high audience live event streaming.

Orange said Neva 80 smartphone supports VoLTE and WiFi Calling.

Orange will demo how sensors based on LoRa-technology distributed in a parking can gather live data on usage to monitor the health of a ventilation system. The Live Objects platform collects, stores and retrieves information to/from the sensors.
