NSN supports StarHub VoLTE call in Singapore

Singapore telecom operator StarHub has completed the voice over LTE (VoLTE) call based on IR.92 in a live network with the support of Nokia Solutions and Networks.

Chan Kin Hung, head of personal solutions at StarHub, said that the telecom operator’s VoLTE call enables its subscribers to benefit from crystal clear voice calls in HD over StarHub’s 4G and 3G network.

Finnish telecom equipment vendor NSN provides LTE infrastructure to support StarHub’s commercial VoLTE rollout in 2014.

To enable VoLTE, StarHub deployed NSN’s Open TAS (Telecommunications Application Server) for voice, Home Subscriber Server (HSS) and IP Multi Media Subsystem (IMS).

NSN had supplied its Single RAN (Single Radio Access Network) platform based on its compact and energy-efficientFlexi Multiradio 10 Base Stations to enable StarHub to run GSM and LTE concurrently on the 1800 MHz band.

The telecom vendor claims that this is the first 3GPP standard VoLTE call in Southeast Asia.
