Nokia Networks powers Ooredoo for LTE-A Carrier Aggregation

Telecom network vendor Nokia Networks today said it upgraded the LTE network of Ooredoo Qatar with LTE-A Carrier Aggregation to offer downlink data speeds of up to 225 Mbps.

This is the first commercial LTE-A deployment with carrier aggregation in Qatar.

Through its LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation, Nokia Networks assists operators to achieve better data rates, including the world’s first three commercial LTE-Advanced networks in Korea.

Ooredoo has benefitted from Nokia Networks’ radio and core network, Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station, Evolved Packet Core technology and NetAct network management system.

Nokia Networks, as par the 4G deal, also combined the 800 MHz and 2.6 GHz spectrum bands by upgrading the currently installed equipment with its carrier aggregation software.

Waleed Al-Sayed, COO, Ooredoo Qatar, said: “The demand for higher network capacity and speed in malls, stadiums and at national events is growing. We are able to address this demand, offering the fastest network with latest technology for our customers.”
