Cavium partners with Aricent to offer 4G mobile evolved packet core solutions for OCTEON II and OCTEON Fusion processors

Cavium, a provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent
processing for networking, communications and the digital home, announced its
collaboration on 4G/LTE Radio Access and Evolved Packet Core solutions with
Aricent, a technology services company.

Through this collaboration, the companies are providing
performance-enhanced and highly-scalable EPC Frameworks and LTE eNodeB base
station protocol software stacks for Cavium’s
OCTEON II Multi-core and the OCTEON Fusion Base-station-on-a-chip processor
families.

This joint effort delivers significant technology synergies, offering
LTE equipment manufacturers a high-performance, high-capacity solution for
their eNodeB and EPC platforms. The partnership accelerates time to market, and
reduces interoperability risk and development cost.

Aricent’s LTE EPC frameworks,
capable of supporting subscriber deployments, comprise of pre-integrated and
pre-optimized Mobility Management Entity, Serving Gateway, Packet DataNetwork
Gateway, Home Subscriber Server and Policy and Charging Rules Function
components.

Aricent 3GPP Release 9/10 standards compliant EPC frameworks integrate
all EPC functions  into a seamless package, accelerating and simplifying
development of highly scalable, carrier-class EPC solutions across small to large
deployments.

“By bringing together Cavium’s semiconductor expertise with
Aricent’s software frameworks, we are able to provide a comprehensive solution
that simplifies development complexity and accelerates time to market for LTE
infrastructure providers,” said said Rakesh Vij, vice president of
business development, wireless and convergence for Aricent.

Aricent’s 3GPP compliant LTE eNodeB framework offering integrates
complete Layer 2 and Layer 3+ functionality in a software package that serves
as a robust reference platform on OCTEON Fusion on which to develop complete
LTE eNodeB solutions. The framework also exposes clear interfaces for equipment
manufacturers to incorporate innovative features in order to differentiate
their products in a highly competitive marketplace.

“Aricent has a successful track record providing mobile
communications technology and services to the world’s leading infrastructure
manufacturers,” said YJ Kim, general manager, Infrastructure Processor
Group at Cavium.
