Telecom Lead America: C Spire Wireless has deployed Tekelec’s Diameter Signaling Router (DSR) to deliver personalized services on its LTE / 4G network.
Tekelec’s DSR will support subscribers’ personalized LTE experience by enabling C Spire, a telecom operator in the U.S.
Tekelec says the DSR binds a subscriber’s mobile data activities – including browsing and voice over LTE (VoLTE) – to a single policy server. This allows C Spire to offer new tightly integrated VoLTE and data services.
All of C Spire’s Diameter traffic will flow through the DSR, giving the operator a central nervous system to intelligently route messages across network elements. This reduces the risk of signaling overloads and balances network resources to reduce congestion, allowing subscribers maximum use of C Spire’s LTE capabilities.
In addition, the DSR provides a secure interconnection to partner networks, protecting private network and subscriber from third parties.
“An efficient, reliable network is critical for our customers to use mobile data when and how they want, at an affordable price,” said David Smith, vice president of Network Engineering for C Spire Wireless. “Tekelec’s Diameter Signaling Router is an essential element for C Spire to offer creative voice and data services for consumer and enterprise customers.”
Tekelec has 75 percent to 85 percent share of the Diameter signaling control market, according to industry analyst firm Exact Ventures, including eight North American mobile operators. Its customers include T-Mobile, Telstra Global, Syniverse, and multiple Tier 1 operators in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia.
“Once LTE is deployed and testing begins, operators begin to see the need to manage and control their Diameter traffic. Since signaling traffic is very difficult to predict, LTE operators have been aggressive about deploying DSCs as insurance against unforeseen surges or spikes in signaling traffic,” said Greg Collins, founder and principal analyst of Exact Ventures, in the report.
As service providers continue to introduce sophisticated applications and data plans that continually need to exchange information with policy servers, subscriber databases, and billing systems, the DSC market will be vital and mission critical to operators for years to come.
“C Spire rapidly rolled out LTE last year, and is architecting a New Diameter Network from the get go,” said Tekelec CTO Doug Suriano. “This allows C Spire to personalize broadband services for both consumers and enterprises.”
