Alcatel-Lucent to power 3G mobile broadband network of CNT Ecuador

Telecom Lead Africa: Alcatel-Lucent announced an
agreement with Corporacion Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (CNT EP), a network
service provider in Ecuador, for deploying a new 3G mobile broadband
network.

The agreement is aimed at meeting the increasing demand
for mobile broadband connectivity across the country and will provide a range
of applications to CNT subscribers.

Under this agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will work with CNT
for delivering fixed and mobile services, to extend its network to deliver
nationwide coverage.

Our extensive 3G experience and expertise, coupled with
our longstanding relationship with CNT, puts us in an ideal position to help
CNT deliver competitive, efficient and high-performance wireless services to
Ecuadorians,” said Osvaldo Di Campli, president of Alcatel-Lucent
in Latin America.

The new mobile network will enable CNT to be the first in
the country to offer its customers converged services that can be accessed from
both their fixed and mobile devices, at home or on the go.

The agreement will make network ‘LTE and
lightRadio-ready’, allowing CNT to offer even faster speeds and an even larger
array of services, applications and devices, in the future.

Cesar Regalado, CNT EP General Manager, said that CNT EP
decision to deploy its own network was based on market needs, technology trends
and a commitment to offer competitive services to Ecuadorians.

Under the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will design and
deploy a complete end-to-end 3G W-CDMA network in the Pacific coastal and
Southern area of Ecuador.

Alcatel-Lucent will also provide maintenance and network
optimization services to help ensure a trouble-free network, allowing CNT to
focus on their customers’ requirements while taking advantage of
Alcatel-Lucent’s world-class operations experience.

A few days back,Alcatel-Lucent,
in partnership with Etisalat, announced Etisalat successfully completed a
technology trial with Alcatel-Lucent lightRadio portfolio to launch 4G LTE
services in the United Arab Emirates.
