Airtel starts undersea optic fiber link between Chennai and Andaman

Bharti Airtel announced the inauguration of the undersea optic fiber link between Chennai and Andaman and Nicobar.

Airtel said it became the first mobile operator to launch 4G services in Andaman and Nicobar with the commissioning of the fiber link.

“The new fiber link marks a major milestone in India’s digital transformation journey as this critical infrastructure reaches the strategic archipelago,” Sunil Bharti Mittal, chairman of Bharti Airtel said.

Airtel, currently India’s second largest telecom services provider in terms of subscribers on its mobile network, was the first private operator to launch mobile services in the Andaman and Nicobar islands.
