Airtel 4G technology supports 40 Mbps download speed and 20 Mbps upload speed

Telecom Lead India: India’s first 4G mobile broadband
provider Bharti Airtel said its 4G services using TD LTE technology is capable
of supporting 40 Mbps download speed and 20 Mbps upload speed.

However, the packages announced by the country’s largest
mobile service provider will prompt retail and enterprise users to pay more
high speed.

For 6GB, users need to Rs 999 rental. During this quota,
customers will benefit from high speed broadband. Speed after quota completion
will be 128 kbps. This means 4G will become 2G, if customers do not pay extra.

The price for 4G Multi Mode Dongle is Rs 7,999 and price
for Indoor CPE with Wi-Fi is Rs 7,750.

LTE / 3G impact: Mobile broadband speeds up 9% to 14 Mbps

The average advertised maximum download speed has
increased significantly over the last 3 months, due to LTE deployment and 3G
upgrades to HSPA/HSPA+ technologies.

Strategy Analytics analysis shows that the average
advertised maximum download speed now stands at over 14 Mbps, an increase of
over nine percent in the past quarter.

Top telecom markets based on mobile broadband speed

While India and China lag well behind, with average
access speeds of only 19 kbps and 50 kpbs, respectively, these speeds are
projected to grow at nearly 100 percent in both countries and cross the 1,000
kbps mark by 2015.

At present, average connection speeds realized in Japan
and South Korea are already the highest in the world, with average speeds of
1,400 kbps in 2010, nearly three times higher than a Western averagex.

By 2015, operators in India will have an average mobile
broadband speed of 1,037 Kbps, China (1,384 Kbps), rest of Asia Asia Pacific
(1,860 Kbps), Korea (4,984 Kbps), Australia and New Zealand (5,194 Kbps) and
the West (5,509 Kbps).

Hyderabad and Chennai are fastest Indian cities with broadband
speeds of 1.5 Mbps and 1.2 Mbps

Akamai Technologies says Hyderabad and Chennai are the
fastest Indian cities in India with average broadband connection speeds of 1.5
Mbps and 1.2 Mbps. The connection speeds in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and
Kolkata are at 0.8 Mbps, 0.8 Mbps, 1.1 Mbps, and 1.1 Mbps, respectively.

Indian broadband (>2 Mbps) adoption touched the 10
percent threshold, growing 45 percent quarter-over-quarter, while high
broadband (>5 Mbps) adoption was at 0.6 percent, growing at 46 percent
quarter-over-quarter.

Top 35 telecom markets based on broadband speed

India does not feature in top 35 broadband markets based
on speed of connectivity. While almost all fixed-broadband connections in
the Republic of Korea provide speeds equal to, or above 10 Mb, broadband users
in Ghana, Mongolia, Oman and Venezuela are limited to broadband speeds below 2
Mb.
