Pay TV subscriber base in Latin America drops

Subscriber base of pay TV market in Latin America dropped 0.1 percent to 71.4 million in the first quarter of 2018 from 2017, according to Dataxis.
Pay TV subscriber base Latin AmericaVenezuela, Brazil and Mexico have recorded the highest loss of Pay TV subscribers.

America Movil remained the main pay TV group in Latin America in terms of subscribers. Though America Movil held 19.2 percent of the Pay TV subscribers, the dominance of the telecom giant has declined due to the weight of Brazil in its portfolio.
PAy TV and ARPU in Latin AmericaDirecTV, owned by AT&T, was the second operator base on subscriber base. AT&T is the largest Pay TV operator in terms of revenue. Televisa is the third largest Pay TV operator though it enjoys very low ARPU.

48.7 percent of the subscribers are on some DTH plans. DTH subscribers are opting out of their telecom operators resulting into loss in Pay TV subscribers. Cable and IPTV exhibited some growth.
