Broadband user base grows 4.48% in India

The number of broadband subscribers in India rose 4.48 percent to 166.96 million in July 2016 from 159.80 million in June 2016, said TRAI.

India has 17.49 million (+1.02 percent) wired broadband subscribers, according to the latest figures available from TRAI.

Broadband users on mobile devices users – smartphones and dongles reached 148.93 million (+4.92 percent).

The number of fixed wireless broadband subscribers  including Wi-Fi, Wi-Max, Point-to-Point Radio & VSAT reached 0.54 million (–1.06 percent)

TRAI said top five telecom service providers in the Indian broadband market were Bharti Airtel (44.41 million), Vodafone (33.36 million), Idea Cellular (28.19 million), BSNL (20.92 million) and Reliance Communications Group (14.74 million).

Top five wired broadband service providers were BSNL (9.86 million), Bharti Airtel (1.88 million), MTNL (1.08 million), Atria Convergence Technologies (1.05 million) and YOU Broadband (0.57 million).

Top five wireless broadband service providers were Bharti Airtel (42.53 million), Vodafone (33.36 million), Idea Cellular (28.19 million), Reliance Communications Group (14.63 million) and BSNL (11.07 million).

TRAI said wireless subscriber base declined 0.09 percent to 1,034.23 million in July 2016 from 1,035.12 million in June 2016.

India has 589.61 million (+0.14 percent) wireless subscribers in urban areas and 444.63 million (–0.38 percent) in rural areas.
