Telecom Lead America: XO Communications has been selected to provide network services to Cobalt Data Centers, a Nevada-based data center operator.
XO Communications will provide gigabit Ethernet Internet services over diverse fiber paths to the new Cobalt Cheyenne Data Center that is being constructed in Las Vegas.
The facility is scheduled to open in November 2012. Southern Nevada provides an ideal setting for data center facilities.
“Businesses and government agencies are looking for data center space in Las Vegas because of its low instance of natural catastrophes, large fiber footprint, and low tax environment. Customers tell us there is a current lack of high quality data center options in the marketplace. With our Cobalt Cheyenne data center we will be able to meet this need by providing high Internet connectivity, private data suites, route redundancy, and efficient power,” said Mike Ballard, CEO of Cobalt Data Centers.
XO Communications is also one of the first service providers in the Cobalt Data Center, offering high capacity connectivity and fully redundant fiber connections to the XO nationwide network.
“XO Communications has worked very closely with Cobalt Data Centers to develop a scalable solution that will address the needs of Cobalt tenants both today and into the future. With a direct fiber connection from Cobalt Cheyenne to our nationwide fiber optic network, we are able to provide another major route for Internet traffic into and out of Las Vegas for businesses’ IP connectivity needs,” said Jim Ferguson, vice president of sales for the West Region at XO Communications.
