Who’s Andrea Folgueiras, the new global CTIO of Telefonica?

Andrea Folgueiras, an expert in the telecommunications industry, has been named the new Global Chief Technology and Information Officer (GCTIO) of Telefonica, effective March 31, 2025.

Andrea Folgueiras will join Telefonica’s Executive Committee, succeeding Enrique Blanco, who will retire after a remarkable 40-year career with the company. Telefonica did not reveal the salary of Andrea Folgueiras.

Andrea Folgueiras holds a degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Buenos Aires and an MBA from ESEADE. With over 30 years of experience in telecommunications, she has held leadership roles across various countries and divisions within Telefonica.

Telefonica Argentina: Andrea joined the company in 1991 and became Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in 1997.

Telefonica Deutschland: Appointed CTO in 2007, she oversaw the development of innovative technological strategies in the German market.

Telefonica Brazil: As CTO starting in 2013, Andrea contributed to the deployment of advanced networks in one of Telefonica’s most significant markets.

Telefonica Hispam: Since 2016, she has served as Chief Technology and Information Officer (CTIO) for the Hispam division, managing operations across multiple Latin American countries.

Andrea Folgueiras also plays an active role in industry development, serving on the boards of Internet for All in Peru and Onnet Fibra in Colombia and Chile, projects aimed at expanding connectivity in underserved areas.

Andrea Folgueiras’s promotion to GCTIO aligns with Telefonica’s commitment to innovation and technological leadership. Her vast experience in technology, operations, and digital transformation makes her well-suited to drive Telefonica’s strategy in a rapidly evolving telecommunications landscape.

Telefonica management has expressed confidence in Andrea Folgueiras’s ability to continue the legacy of technological excellence established by her predecessor, Enrique Blanco, while steering the company toward new opportunities in next-generation networks and digital services.
