VSAT Subscribers Grow 16 Percent in 2010

 

The total number of VSAT subscribers increased to 135,521 at the end of December 2010 from 116,666 subscribers at the end of December 2009, registering a growth of 16 percent.

 

 

 

 

The growth in country’s economy is fuelling the growth in VSAT.

 

 

 

 

Net additions during the September-December 2010 quarter has been 4,190 and, the growth rate 3.19 percent, according to TRAI.

 

 

 

Bharti Airtel continues to be the market leader with subscriber base of 42,503, followed by Hughes Communication (41,585). HCL Comnet System and Services registered decline of 0.02 percent in VSAT subscribers in this quarter.

 

 

 

 

The top 5 VSAT players as on 31-12-2010 include Bharti Airtel (31.37 percent marketshare, Hughes Communications (30.69 percent), HCL Comnet (19.15 percent), TataNet (10.62 percent) and BSNL (5.08 percent).

 

 

 

 

BSNL grew its VSAT subscribers by 11.07 percent to reach 6,884 in December 2010 from 6,198 in September 2010.
