Vodafone plans to roll out the technology across Europe in 2025 and 2026.

Margherita Della Valle received the call from an engineer in the Welsh mountains, where there was no network signal, Reuters news report said.

Vodafone uses AST SpaceMobile’s five BlueBird satellites in low-Earth orbit to provide high-speed connectivity.

The company is an investor in AST SpaceMobile alongside AT&T, Verizon, and Google.

Mobile operators and smartphone makers are racing to deploy satellite services to close network gaps.

T-Mobile and SpaceX are testing Starlink satellites for text, voice, and data services. Vodafone launched a space-to-land gateway in Newbury, UK.
