Vivacom to upgrade broadband network to offer video, voice and data services

Telecom Lead Europe: Bulgarian telecom operator Vivacom
is upgrading its broadband network to offer video, voice and data services.

Vivacom is deploying Alcatel-Lucent’s GPON solution.

The Bulgarian telecom operator is aiming to offer
reliable and high speed broadband connection to 1000,000 households. The
service provider will also benefit from a reduction in operating costs.

EU has set goals of providing speeds of 100 Mbps to half
of European households and 30 Mbps to all European households by 2020.

Vivacom will be providing 100 Mbps to customers in the
cities of Sofia, Varna and Plovdiv in 2012 – with additional cities to follow.

“Vivacom is implementing its program for network
development, focused on guaranteeing a better customer experience as well as
supporting Bulgaria in meeting its commitments to the European Union. Our
partnership with Alcatel-Lucent – one of the leaders in this domain – will
enable us to improve our product and services offerings to our customers,”
said Bernard Moscheni, CEO of Vivacom.

“As the worldwide leader in fixed broadband access,
supporting the largest mass deployments of video, voice and data services,
Alcatel-Lucent will bring best practices and solid experience to support
Vivacom in continuing to upgrade its network,” said Luc Patie, Alcatel-Lucent
Director in Bulgaria.

Alcatel-Lucent is providing Vivacom with its Intelligent
Services Access Manager product family – including the Alcatel-Lucent 7302
ISAM.
